This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Pepperidge Farm.
I do an awful lot of baking. Cookies by the ton during the holidays, and all sorts of baked treats throughout the year. And I'm not complaining - I love to bake. But still, it's a lot of work. And there are times when I just wish the ingredients would mix, shape and bake themselves into cookies and snacks so I could take a break. So when BlogHer asked if I'd like to review Pepperidge Farm® Petite Twists® and Petite Pirouette®, I couldn't type "yes" fast enough.
About a week or so later, I received a case - a whole case! All for me! Okay, not just for me. I had to share. The rest of the family all saw the package arrive. And they can read, drat them. The case contained 12 cute canisters. Six of the canisters contained Petite Pirouette and the other six held Petite Twists. Woo hoo! And I didn't even have to preheat the oven.
First, we cracked open the chocolate crème Petite Pirouette. (They also sent chocolate hazelnut. Yum!) A Petite Pirouette is a delicate, crispy rolled wafer with creamy, chocolaty filling on the inside. Try either the chocolate hazelnut or chocolate crème flavor - or both! Three Petite Pirouette rolled wafers add up to 90 carefree calories! Only 90! I didn't really have to share at all!
My kids loved them. Julia, who is five, announced "It's AWESOME!" and would have eaten the entire canister of chocolate hazelnut if I hadn't stopped her. Alex, who is seven, is a bit more restrained when giving his opinion. He chewed thoughtfully for a moment, and then exclaimed "They kind of taste like chocolate cereal!" High praise indeed coming from a second grader!
Bill and I liked them well enough - they were tasty and chocolaty, and would go perfectly after dinner with coffee or tea. The only thing that neither of us were crazy about was the texture of the crème filling. But that's just us. We both know that using pastry cream or whipped cream wouldn't work - the cookies would get soggy, which would be kind of disappointing when you open the canister, wouldn't it? So that's just the way things are in the world of shelf life. As a side note, I preferred the chocolate hazelnut to the chocolate crème, especially with a good, strong cup of coffee.
Next, it was on to the Petite Twists. And here's where Pepperidge Farm took their delivery truck and drove right up my alley. I LOVED these. The kids, my husband - they liked them. I LOVED them. Can't emphasize that enough. LOVED. I am such a starch addict that I'd eat an empty pie shell as long as it was crispy and flaky and yummy.
Pepperidge Farm has spared me this embarrassment. Petite Twists puffed pastries have layers of delicate, crisp pastry swirled with sweet cinnamon or raspberry. A delightful treat with 90 calories in two treats! Again with the 90 calories! Can you believe it? I liked the cinnamon Petite Twists the best - I ate two (okay, three...maybe four) with my coffee this morning. The raspberry is good, too - tastes like, you guessed it, REAL RASPBERRY! I think my kids preferred the raspberry. Doesn't matter. I'm hiding the rest anyway. I'm saving them for those days when I want to indulge.
And speaking of indulging, how do YOU treat yourself? Blogher wants to know! Really, they do! And they're willing to let me give away a $150 Spa Gift Card to prove it! So what are you waiting for?
